Privacy Policy for Vasistha
Effective date: August 3, 2026 · Last updated: August 3, 2026
Vasistha is provided by Jnana Lab (“Vasistha,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy applies to the Vasistha iOS and iPadOS app, its widget, the Vasistha pages at jnanalab.com, and support or privacy correspondence with us.
At a glance
Vasistha is a reading app whose bundled content works offline.
- You can use the app without creating an account.
- The app contains no advertising, tracking technology, third-party analytics SDK, third-party crash-reporting SDK, developer-operated backend, subscription, in-app purchase, or feature paywall.
- The app does not send your reading activity, searches, saved passages, contemplation notes, completion history, reminder choices, or device identifiers to us.
- Limited information is stored in iOS app storage to provide the features you choose.
- The website host and our email provider process limited information to deliver the site and answer messages, as described below.
Information stored by the app
Vasistha uses Apple’s app storage to keep the following information locally on your device:
- identifiers for passages you save, so they appear under Saved;
- optional contemplation-note text, together with the related passage, calendar day, and last-update date;
- dates on which contemplations are completed;
- whether the welcome introduction has been completed;
- whether Daily Bell is enabled and the reminder time you choose; and
- a random installation value used to keep the daily passage consistent between the app and its bundled widget.
Library search text is used only to filter the passages bundled with the app while you use the Library screen. It is not retained as search history.
Your contemplation notes are free-form. They may contain personal, philosophical, religious, or other sensitive information if you choose to write it. We do not receive or know their contents.
Notifications and widgets
Daily Bell is optional. If you enable it, Vasistha asks iOS for notification permission and schedules notifications locally on your device. A notification may include a public Yoga Vasistha excerpt and a local passage identifier used to open the relevant screen. Depending on your iOS settings, this content may be visible on your Lock Screen or to people who can see your device.
Vasistha does not operate a push-notification server.
The widget displays bundled public passage content. It does not display or access your contemplation notes or saved-passage list. The app and widget may use an Apple App Group on the same device to share only the random installation value used for the daily reading order. This is not CloudKit or cross-device synchronization.
Data the app does not collect
The Vasistha app does not transmit your notes, saved passages, reading activity, search text, reminder choices, or device identifiers to us.
The app does not request access to your location, photos, camera, microphone, contacts, health information, or advertising identifier. Notifications are the only user permission the app requests.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to track you across unrelated apps or websites.
Apple services and backups
Vasistha does not use CloudKit or iCloud to synchronize your app data between devices. Apple may nevertheless include app data in an iCloud or computer backup, restore, or device transfer according to your Apple and device settings. Apple or you control those services; Vasistha does not operate or access the backups.
Apple may independently process information when you download or update the app, use App Store services, use Siri or App Shortcuts, receive notifications, restore a device backup, or choose to share diagnostics. Apple’s processing is governed by Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.
Where Apple makes App Analytics or user-shared crash diagnostics available to us, that information is provided by Apple in aggregated or anonymized form and remains subject to Apple’s terms.
Your choices and deletion
In Vasistha Settings, Clear saved passages and notes removes saved passage identifiers, contemplation notes, and completed contemplation dates from the current device. It does not reset every app preference.
You can pause Daily Bell inside the app to remove pending Vasistha reminders. The selected reminder time may remain as a local preference while the bell is paused. You can change or revoke notification permission in iOS Settings.
Vasistha has no user account or server-side user profile. We therefore cannot retrieve, restore, export, or remotely delete your app-local information. Deleting the app normally removes its active app-managed storage from the device, subject to backup copies controlled through Apple’s backup services.
Information from the website
The Vasistha pages at jnanalab.com set no cookies and load no analytics, advertising, remote fonts, embedded media, or third-party scripts.
The site is served from a virtual server located in Helsinki, Finland, in the European Union. Our hosting provider processes limited technical request and security information to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser or device information, requested page, date and time, referrer, and security events. These server logs rotate automatically and are capped in size, so older entries are overwritten rather than kept indefinitely. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not linked to anything you do inside the app.
Browser Do Not Track signals are not standardized. Because the site performs no behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking, it does not change behavior in response to those signals.
Information you send to support
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and any diagnostic details or attachments you include. Please do not include contemplation notes or other sensitive information in a support message.
We use support information to respond to you, investigate app issues, protect the app and website, maintain appropriate business records, and comply with legal obligations. Support correspondence is kept only as long as needed for those purposes, and is then deleted, unless a longer period is required by law or is reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Purposes and legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process website and correspondence information:
- to deliver and secure the website, based on our legitimate interest in operating a reliable public information and support site;
- to respond to a message or take steps you request, based on our legitimate interest in providing support and, where applicable, taking steps at your request;
- to prevent misuse and protect legal rights, based on our legitimate interests; and
- to comply with legal obligations that apply to us.
We will ask for consent where applicable law requires it. You are not required to contact support, but we may be unable to answer a request if you do not provide enough information to understand and respond to it.
Service providers, recipients, and transfers
We use a limited set of service providers to operate the public website and our email. These providers process information on our behalf or as independent providers under their own terms. We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or complete a business reorganization as permitted by law.
We do not sell personal information or disclose it to data brokers or advertising networks.
Website information is processed in the European Union. We are based in Argentina, so correspondence you send us may be accessed from there.
Retention
- App-local information remains in iOS app storage until you clear it, change the relevant setting, or delete the app, subject to Apple-controlled backups.
- Website request and security logs rotate automatically and are capped in size, so older entries are overwritten.
- Support and privacy correspondence is retained only as long as needed to handle the request and keep ordinary business records.
- Information required for legal compliance or legal claims may be retained for the applicable period.
When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it where reasonably possible.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of personal information we hold about you; to object to certain processing; to withdraw consent; and to complain to a data-protection authority.
To make a request, email hello@jnanalab.com. We may need limited information to verify the request and protect other people’s information. Mandatory rights under applicable law are not limited by this Policy.
Because we do not receive app-local information, the controls in the app and in iOS are the way to manage that information. We cannot access or delete a contemplation note or saved passage on your behalf.
If you are in Argentina, you also have rights of access, rectification, updating, and deletion under Law 25,326, and you may contact the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública if a qualifying request is not properly addressed.
Children
Vasistha is a general-audience reading app and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not ask for age and does not transmit personal information from the app to us. A parent or guardian should contact support on behalf of a child where required by applicable law. If you believe a child sent personal information to us through support, contact hello@jnanalab.com so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Security
App-local information is protected by the safeguards provided by iOS and the app sandbox. Website and correspondence information is protected using measures appropriate to the limited information and services involved. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
Avoid entering information in a contemplation note that you would not want stored on your device or included in an Apple-controlled device backup.
External links
The website or app may link to Apple, the App Store, or Project Gutenberg. Those services are operated by third parties and have their own terms and privacy practices. Vasistha is not responsible for their independent processing.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy when the app, website, service providers, or legal requirements change. The revised Policy will show a new “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how personal information is handled, we will provide notice appropriate to the change and as required by law.
