Terms of Service for Vasistha
Effective date: August 3, 2026 · Last updated: August 3, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Vasistha app, its widget, and the Vasistha pages at jnanalab.com (together, “Vasistha” or the “Service”). The Service is provided by Jnana Lab (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are not legally able to agree, do not use the Service except with the permission and supervision required by applicable law.
1. Apple App Store license
The app is licensed through the Apple App Store and is also subject to Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement unless a valid custom license is expressly provided through the App Store.
These Terms supplement, and do not replace, Apple’s Standard EULA or any mandatory consumer protections. If these Terms conflict with the Standard EULA about the App Store license, the Standard EULA controls to that extent.
2. What Vasistha provides
Vasistha is a literary, educational, and contemplative reading companion for the Yoga Vasistha. The current release includes bundled daily passages, contemporary editorial renderings, the corresponding wording from Vihari-Lala Mitra’s public-domain English translation, wider source context, a passage Library, saved passages, optional contemplation notes, a one-minute stillness timer, optional local reminders, widgets, shortcuts, and offline reading access.
The current release has no user account, user posting, developer-hosted content service, advertising, tracking, subscription, in-app purchase, or feature paywall.
3. Personal and lawful use
You may use Vasistha for personal, lawful purposes in accordance with these Terms, Apple’s Standard EULA, and the App Store Usage Rules.
You must not:
- use the Service in a way that violates applicable law or another person’s rights;
- interfere with, damage, overload, or attempt to compromise the app, widget, website, or related systems;
- use malicious code, automated abuse, or deceptive means against the Service;
- misrepresent an affiliation with Vasistha; or
- remove proprietary notices from Vasistha-owned material.
Nothing in these Terms prohibits reverse engineering, interoperability work, quotation, criticism, research, accessibility use, or other activity that applicable law does not allow us to restrict.
4. Contemplative material, not professional care
Vasistha provides literary, educational, and contemplative material. It is not medical, mental-health, therapeutic, diagnostic, religious, legal, financial, or emergency advice or service. The app does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any condition and does not promise spiritual attainment or a particular outcome.
Do not use Vasistha as a substitute for qualified professional care or to make medical or mental-health decisions. If you need professional or emergency help, contact an appropriate qualified professional or local emergency service.
5. Source text and intellectual property
The app draws on Vihari-Lala Mitra’s English translation of the Yoga Vasistha as made available by Project Gutenberg. Portions identified as public-domain source text remain public domain where applicable, and we do not claim exclusive rights in them.
The app’s software, original editorial renderings, selection and arrangement, annotations, reflections, interface, artwork, icon, and the Vasistha name and branding may be protected by copyright, trademark, or other laws. Except for the limited App Store license and rights granted by applicable law, no rights in those materials are transferred to you.
Project Gutenberg determines public-domain status under United States law and warns that users outside the United States must consider the law of their own country. You are responsible for confirming that any reuse or redistribution of source text is lawful where you are located.
Vasistha is not affiliated with or endorsed by Project Gutenberg, Apple, Valmiki, Vihari-Lala Mitra, or any religious institution.
Questions about rights or alleged infringement may be sent to hello@jnanalab.com.
6. Editorial and source limitations
Vasistha’s daily excerpts are contemporary editorial renderings intended to support reading. They are not presented as direct translations, a complete translation, a critical edition, or a substitute for scholarly study.
We try to provide accurate source references, wording, and context, but do not guarantee that every transcription, locator, interpretation, editorial rendering, reflection, or source description is error-free, complete, or suitable for every purpose. Please report a suspected content issue to hello@jnanalab.com.
7. Local notes, preferences, and data loss
Saved passage identifiers, contemplation notes, completion dates, reminder preferences, onboarding state, and the local daily-order value are stored in iOS app storage. We do not operate a server copy and cannot retrieve, restore, synchronize, export, or recover this information for you.
Information may be lost when you clear data, delete the app, lose or reset a device, change devices, encounter a software or backup failure, or change Apple backup settings. Apple-controlled backups or transfers may include app data but are not operated by us. Keep any information that matters to you somewhere appropriate outside the app.
See the Privacy Policy for the complete current data-handling description.
8. Notifications, widgets, shortcuts, and availability
Daily Bell notifications are optional and scheduled through iOS. Delivery, timing, sound, Lock Screen visibility, and availability depend on device state, permissions, Focus settings, power management, iOS behavior, and other factors outside our control. We do not guarantee that a notification or widget update will appear at a particular time.
Widgets, App Shortcuts, deep links, and other system integrations may vary by device, operating-system version, language, region, and Apple policy.
9. Third-party services and links
The Service may interact with or link to Apple, the App Store, iOS features, email services, website hosting, or Project Gutenberg. Those services are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for their independent content, availability, security, or data practices.
Links are provided for context or convenience and do not imply endorsement.
10. Changes to the Service
We may update, correct, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features, content, compatibility, or availability. We may issue updates needed for security, reliability, legal compliance, or product development. We do not promise that every feature or passage will remain available forever.
Where required by law, we will provide appropriate notice of a material change.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Vasistha is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not make warranties beyond those that cannot legally be excluded, including warranties about uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, notification delivery, data preservation, fitness for a particular purpose, or a particular contemplative, educational, spiritual, or personal outcome.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits a warranty, guarantee, remedy, or other consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for loss of data, opportunity, goodwill, or profit arising from use of or inability to use the Service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
13. Ending use
You may stop using Vasistha at any time and may delete the app from your device.
We may restrict access to the public website where reasonably necessary to address unlawful, abusive, or harmful conduct, protect security, or comply with law. Because the app has no account or developer-hosted access control in the current release, there is no account to terminate.
Provisions that by their nature should survive, such as intellectual-property, disclaimer, liability, and dispute provisions, continue to apply after use ends.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service or applicable requirements change. The revised Terms will show a new “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will provide notice appropriate to the change and as required by law.
Your continued use after updated Terms take effect means you accept them where applicable law permits. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic, excluding conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be submitted to the competent courts of the Argentine Republic, except where applicable law gives you a mandatory right to bring a claim elsewhere.
Nothing in this section removes mandatory protections or dispute rights available to a consumer in the place where they live.
