Support for Vasistha

Find help with daily passages, source context, saved passages, notes, Daily Bell notifications, widgets, and privacy. If the answer is not here, write to hello@jnanalab.com and a person will read it.

Getting started

Open Vasistha for one daily passage. Choose Go deeper to see the corresponding wording in Vihari-Lala Mitra’s public-domain English translation and, where available, the surrounding source context. Choose Enter contemplation to consider one question, use the optional one-minute timer, or write a note stored locally.

Use Library to search, follow Themes, browse By Book, or revisit Saved passages.

Is an account required?

No. Vasistha has no user account or sign-in.

Can I use Vasistha offline?

Yes. The 365 passages and their source context are bundled with the app. Reading, searching, saving passages, and writing contemplation notes do not require a connection to a Vasistha server.

App Store downloads, updates, email support, and third-party links require the relevant third-party service.

Saved passages and contemplation notes

Saved passage identifiers, optional notes, and completed contemplation dates are stored in iOS app storage and are not sent to us.

To remove saved passages, notes, and completed contemplation dates, open Settings → Clear saved passages and notes. This action does not reset every preference and cannot be undone.

Deleting or reinstalling the app can remove active local data. Apple-controlled backups may retain a copy according to your settings. We do not have a server copy and cannot recover your notes or saved passages.

Daily Bell notifications

Daily Bell is optional and scheduled locally through iOS. If a reminder does not arrive:

Vasistha cannot guarantee an exact delivery time, because iOS controls notification presentation. Reminder text may be visible on your Lock Screen according to your settings.

Widgets

Vasistha includes Home Screen and supported Lock Screen widgets for the daily excerpt. If a widget appears stale:

The widget shows bundled public passage content. It does not display or access your contemplation notes or saved-passage list.

Content and sources

Vasistha contains 365 contemporary editorial renderings grounded in Vihari-Lala Mitra’s public-domain English translation of the Yoga Vasistha, accessed through seven Project Gutenberg books and parts.

The app distinguishes among the daily excerpt, which is a contemporary editorial rendering; the source text, which is the corresponding wording from the public-domain English translation; and the wider source context, with book, chapter, and locator information.

Vasistha is not a complete translation or critical edition. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Project Gutenberg or any religious institution.

To report a source, transcription, locator, or editorial issue, email hello@jnanalab.com and include the passage title and source locator shown in the app.

Languages and devices

The first public release is in English, for iPhone and iPad on iOS or iPadOS 16 and later. Final device and OS availability matches the live App Store listing.

Accessibility

Vasistha is designed to support Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, increased contrast, and reduced motion. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, email hello@jnanalab.com with the screen, device model, iOS or iPadOS version, and the accessibility setting involved.

Before reinstalling

Reinstalling can remove active local saved passages, notes, completion history, and preferences. We cannot recover them, because Vasistha has no user account or server-side copy.

Try restarting the app and the device before reinstalling. If you write to support, please do not include private contemplation-note text.

Privacy

For the definitive description, read the Privacy Policy.

In short: no account, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party analytics, no subscription, no in-app purchase, no feature paywall, and no developer-operated backend. The app stores limited reading and reminder state in iOS app storage and does not send it to us. Apple backup services may include app data according to your settings.
